Robert Frosts Answering Machine
Book Photo "Decades of trying and failing have not dissuaded me of the notion that one should be able to nail any truth in four lines or less," writes Daniel Waters in the foreword to Chicken Fingers, Volume 2 of his collected short verse. "Not only should this be possible, if one is lucky, but for ease of remembering and for maximum persuasiveness, those lines should rhyme."

This handsome chapbook presents more than 80 short humorous rhymes Mr. Water has written since 1982 (under the pseudonym of D.A.W.) for the Vineyard Gazette, Yankee Magazine and NPR Radio. Each spread features a black-and-white linoleum-block illustration culled from hundreds of hand-carved blockprints Mr. Waters made over the years for his line of greeting cards. The result is an entertaining journey through the seasons and through life: fleeting moments (and even some truths) captured in line and verse, and brought together in permanent form.

"This slim, soft-bound volume of verses, volume two following 'Robert Frost's Answering Machine,' continues to reassert poet Daniel Waters's ability to put poetry in everyone's back pocket. His sometimes touching, usually humorous quatrains speak of all that surrounds us - things in nature from weather to fireflies, pets, insects, small objects and occasions. From his vantage point, everyday minutia and mundane activities are recognized and elevated to higher status. Ordinary is no longer." - C.K. Wolfson, Martha's Vineyard Times
